As the federal corruption investigations of Alaska’s state legislators have rolled on, APRN’s David Shurtleff and Steve Heimel have covered everything from the accusations and trials to the convictions for a statewide news audience. You can find all their coverage on aprn.org.
The trials and their revelations have also gathered national attention, including the focus of a new episode of PBS’ weekly investigative news program, NOW. This week the NOW crew focus on the oil industry’s influence in Washington, DC politics, but they also look deeply at the Alaska legislative scandal. The NOW segment is called Big Oil, Big Influence and airs this Friday.
For their extended coverage online, NOW also published a written interview with APRN reporter David Shurtleff, specifically focused on the corruption trials and the individual and corporate players involved. (The interview is not part of the airing program — it’s only online.) There’s quite of bit of extra material online, including a quick timeline of the corruption probe.
You can watch NOW this Friday, 11/23 at 7:30 p.m. (repeating Saturday, 11/24 at 12:30 a.m.). Additionally, be sure to visit the NOW website for downloadable audio and, after broadcast, online streaming video.
