Posted in Schedule Updates
Tonight on KAKM Channel 7 at 9:00 p.m. (repeating Wed, 2/6 at 3:00 a.m.), you can tune in to see the unique documentary Prince Among Slaves
…the story of Abdul Rahman, an African prince who, at the age of 26 in 1788, was captured and sold into slavery, spending the next 40 years of his life working on a Mississippi plantation before regaining his freedom.
Aside from being a fascinating look at slavery’s history through the experience of a high-born man, it’s also a production with a special link to Anchorage, Alaska. One of the actors and narrators in tonight’s program — Isaiah Johnson — is a Bartlett High School graduate! We received word of this honor just this afternoon from an understandably proud father:
My son, Isaiah Johnson, a 2000 year graduate of Bartlett High School and a New York Broadway actor, will be featured tonight, February 4, 2008, on PBS (Channel 7) at 9:00 pm. … Isaiah is cast as one of the slaves and co-narrator. The historical aspect is a very worthwhile learning opportunity for all! Thank you for sharing this announcement with others of interest. Sincerely, Will
Thanks for dropping the hint, Mr. Johnson, and congratulations to you and your son for bringing this story home!

Thank you for emphasizing Isaiah’s accomplishment on your website (www.kakm.org).
His parents definitely have an achievement that warrants our community to embrace and gain an understanding from the knowledge of this true historical account of a Prince/King of Africa
in America. To God Be the Glory!
Please re-run this program throughout the month.
Thanks for the comment, Robin! Unfortunately, the schedule is largely set by PBS nationally, and the only rerun appearing on the schedule is set for 3:00 a.m. on Wed, Feb 6th (tonight). We don’t own the rights or have the systems in place to re-run it additional times.
However, the DVD will be released February 27, according to the producer’s web site. You can pre-order by calling 1-888-786-0444.
Local groups and theaters can also schedule local screenings, with permission of the producer. You can find out more about that here:
