Each week, host Michael Carey gathers journalists and commentators for a review of the week’s news, politics and public affairs in Anchorage and Alaska. Topics this week include:
- All Sarah Palin, all the time in the national media frenzy
- “Troopergate” story continues; legislators falling all over themselves to take positions; nothing resolution expected prior to the election
- Who’s in charge in Juneau these days? What does it mean when a State agency refers policy questions to the McCain campaign?
- What happens after the election if McCain/Palin loses? The disarray and realignments in Juneau have changed the playing field dramatically.
- There’s a clear conflict of interest between Palin as Governor and Palin as VP candidate in the Troopergate matter
- Palin has turned over several state matters to the McCain campaign, possibly tarnishing her image in Alaska
- How do you cover all this mess effectively on television?
- What are Palin’s prospects as a national figure if she either wins or loses the VP bid?
- How is Palin’s image holding up in the national media as she makes appearances?
- What will Palin do in two years if she’s not in Washington, DC?
- Given the economic situation, what are the chances of an in-power administration staying in power?
- The Ted Stevens trial opens in Washington, DC next week; Stevens opens a new community-based office in south Anchorage to help with PR
- Alaska is in the national spotlight all over the place — Stevens on trial, Palin on the trail
- Political corruption in Alaska and the turmoil around it isn’t anything new, although the scale of the issues are bigger this time around

Gentlemen, gentlemen…
Surely you have read King Lear and Julius Caesar, and derived some moral lessons from these tragedies. The crowd is fickle, remembering only the last thing it was told; nor does ever show gratitude for the benefits it receives. Your Governor has managed to put a couple thousand dollars in your pockets from excess oil profits, and you malign her by assuming she was wrong to condemn a man who admits he used a taser on a ten year old.
What is Sarah Palin’s approval rating in Alaska? I hear it’s above eighty percent… correct me if I’m wrong. Your consciences might urge you to mention you are in the minority among Alaskan voters, eh?
How would you feel if your email were hacked and broadcast on ABC? You make no mention of this, yet it seems to me newsworthy and topical, even if you approve of such Democratic barbarity.
You are hopeless, but at least you don’t scream, and this pleases me.
Cordially,
Paul Fournier

Please address constitutional problems with Alaska’s Attorney General. Where is the AG’s alligence? What legal entity is really protecting Alaskans? Can the AG just relinquish his/her responsiblities to outside interests or just not deal with issues by going on vacation? Can the AG ignore subpoenas? Can Alaskans take action to fire the AG?
