Republican National Convention on PBS
Tue, September 2, 2008
Tune in to KAKM Channel 7 tonight starting at 7:00 p.m.
Starting tonight (Tuesday, 9/2) and running through Thursday, KAKM is proud to bring you PBS’ special Republican Convention coverage. NOTE: while the live activities start at 4:00 p.m. Alaska time, we’re tape-delaying the playback to 7:00 p.m.
Anchored by Jim Lehrer of The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, this special coverage will include extended, uninterrupted coverage of podium activities and speeches; reporting from the floor of the convention; newsmaker interviews; political analysis and historical perspective. NewsHour senior correspondents Gwen Ifill, Ray Suarez, Judy Woodruff and Margaret Warner will join Lehrer. Political analysis will be provided by New York Times columnist David Brooks and syndicated columnist Mark Shields. Presidential historians Michael Beschloss and Richard Norton Smith will add historical perspective; Andy Kohut, president of the Pew Research Center, will update viewers with the latest polling information. Alaska Weather Extras: September 2008
Mon, September 1, 2008
Each day during Alaska Weather (5:30pm, 7 days a week), our local National Weather Service meteorologists share weather updates with a statewide perspective, but they also share brief video “extras” that cover astronomy, aviation and aeronautics, weather, boating safety, navigation and emergency preparedness.
Here are the “Alaska Weather Extras” planned for September 2008 (and a little into October) if you’d like to plan out your viewing:
Last-minute programming changes: Mon, Sep 1
Mon, September 1, 2008
As many of you have likely heard, the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota has made some last-minute changes to their schedule, and both NPR and PBS blanket coverage of the first evening of activities and speeches has been canceled. The changes were made in reaction to the arrival of hurricane Gustav in the Gulf Coast area.
In place of the RNC, here’s tonight’s lineup on Channel 7:
- 7:00pm Antiques Roadshow: Tucson, Arizona
- 8:00pm History Detectives
- 9:00pm Most Honorable Son
The NewsHour, including coverage of the RNC and Gustav, will air at the normal time of 6:00pm.
Special coverage of the RNC by the NewsHour team is planned to resume tomorrow night (Tue, 9/2) at 7:00pm.
PBS KIDS programming lineup changes
Mon, September 1, 2008
As of September 1, 2008, KAKM’s lineup of kids programming from PBS is changing, almost across the board. There are a couple new programs, lots of schedule changes, and some cancellations (at least for now). These were changes made by PBS and KAKM for the fall season. We expect the new schedule to remain stable into the winter.
We recommend parents looking for specific programs download and review the following documents to find our complete schedule as well as a list of the changes themselves.
