October Nova: Darwin’s Darkest Hour, Lizard Kings, Hubble
Tue, September 29, 2009
Henry Ian Cusick and Frances O’Connor star in Darwin’s Darkest Hour this month on Nova.
Darwin’s Darkest Hour
“NOVA and National Geographic Television present the extraordinary human drama that led to the birth of the most influential scientific theory of all time. It brings to life Charles Darwin’s greatest personal crisis: the anguishing decision over whether to “go public” with his theory of evolution. Darwin spent years refining his ideas and penning his seminal book, On the Origin of Species . Daunted by looming conflict with the orthodox religious values of his day, he resisted publishing — until a letter from naturalist Alfred Wallace forced his hand. In 1858, Darwin learned that Wallace was on the brink of publishing ideas similar to his own. In a sickened panic, Darwin grasped his dilemma: To delay publishing any longer would be to condemn all of his work to obscurity… But to come forward with his ideas risked the fury of the church and perhaps a rift with his own devoted wife, who clung to a devout, orthodox view of creation. This moving drama about the birth of a great idea is seen through the inspiration and personal sufferings of its brilliant originator.”

KAKM ENCORE: Playing for Change
Mon, September 7, 2009
KAKM is pleased to bring back “Playing for Change” one more time in September.
- Please tune in Saturday, September 19 at 10 p.m.
Playing For Change is a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. The project began a decade ago, the brainchild of Grammy-winning music producer and engineer Mark Johnson. For ten years, Johnson and his team traveled the globe to record little-known musicians.
The name “Playing For Change” evokes the coins thrown to street musicians as well as the transformation their music inspires. The team traveled to five continents to find and record unique and talented musicians. Locales include New Orleans, LA; Johannesburg, South Africa; Tel Aviv, Israel; Omagh, Ireland; Chennai, India; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Moscow, Russia; Kathmandu, Nepal; and many others.
The Thank You Gift:
