APTI seeks an IT System Specialist to maintain the IT infrastructure that supports the core business of APTI, KAKM television, KSKA radio and Alaska Public Radio Network (APRN). The IT Systems Specialist is an integral part of the APTI team, providing outstanding service in the upkeep of the myriad of computer and IT systems within the organization.
APTI is the public radio and television service for Anchorage and surrounding communities. It is the operator of the statewide Alaska Public Radio Network, a collaborative enterprise involving 26 radio stations in the production and presentation of Alaska news, current affairs and cultural information. APTI is engaged in conversations with KTOO, Juneau and KUAC, Fairbanks about possible combination into a statewide organization aimed at transforming public media service in our large and diverse state.

Essential Function
The IT System Specialist is the primary person responsible for the operation of the IT infrastructure within the facilities of KAKM-DT, KSKA-FM (HD), The Alaska Public Radio Network and related digital media. This infrastructure includes both business and broadcast operational systems and software of the combined facilities. The IT System Specialist will help plan, design, build and manage the IT backbone supporting the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Deploy, maintain, support and upgrade servers, desktop PC’s, hardware, software and operating systems in both a business and broadcast environment.
- Design and support server system(s) and supporting software
- Troubleshoot end-user problems
- Oversee administration of all File Servers, LAN/WAN/VPN
- Coordinate with Broadcast Operations and provide support for broadcast specific mission critical IT infrastructure
- Ensure network (Operating systems, LAN/WAN/VPN) security access and protects against unauthorized access, modification, or destruction
- Troubleshoot network access problems and enforce network security policies and procedures
- Provide advanced end-user PC Support
- Interact with all levels of the organization, as well as, possess excellent organizational, verbal and written skills
- Other responsibilities as directed by CTO, GM and Senior Management
- On occasion provide remote services and recommendations to other group TV organizations as directed by CTO.
Required Qualifications
- MCSE and/or CCNA certified
- 5+ years experience in an Information Technology environment
- MS Windows Network administration.
- Linux, UNIX and Novell experience
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to analyze business requirements and recommend design and solutions that match functionality to business need.
- Strong knowledge and experience with Windows OS and Microsoft Office.
- Strong knowledge and experience with Network Operations, software and hardware support.
- Comprehensive knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, WINS, DHCP, LAN and Ethernet.
- Knowledge of network switching, bridging, routing, and security access control technology.
- TV and radio Broadcasting administration with an understanding of: Enco newsroom and integrated Avid nonlinear systems. As well as production control room and Master Control Systems such as Sundance, Omneon, Spectra Logic, and more.

Work Environment
The work environment may include construction and repair at remote locations where weather may cause hardship and physical danger. Other environments contain high voltage, high RF and high heat situations that require appropriate safety discipline. Travel to sites may require the use of aircraft, off-highway vehicles and other non-traditional transportation. Summary Position Statement
The Public Media Editor is responsible for the design and operation of APTI’s web sites. APTI includes KSKA Public Radio, KAKM Public Television, and the Alaska Public Radio Network (APRN) and all related sites.
The Public Media Editor will be abreast of contemporary Web issues, challenges and programming, uphold the highest journalistic standards and ethics, work comfortably and professionally with internal and external stakeholders, and perform a range of duties from strategic to operational.
The Public Media Editor will:
- Create and establish contemporary channels and methods of reporting the news.
- Work with APTI news staff to effectively report for the Web.
- Plan and implement initiatives to engage the APTI audience.
- Work with the development staff to plan and implement Web programs that support development and membership initiatives.
- Revise, enhance and redesign the APTI sites as needed.
- Troubleshoot and quickly respond to various software and web related issues.
- Train the APTI staff and interested APRN member stations.
- Lead in ensuring the APTI Web site is current and engaging to various APTI audiences. This effort not only includes working with the news and programming staff, but also with the development and membership staff.
- Work closely with the VP of News and Public Media to integrate social media programs into APTI initiatives, harness the power of citizen journalism, and develop programs that allies APTI with other community organizations.
- Lead a redesign of the site.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee all Web operations for APTI.
- Develop modern methods of reporting the news and program initiatives on APTI.
- Create and implement programs to engage APTI audiences.
- Craft and execute strategies to ally APTI with civic organizations, community groups, other media, content producers and citizen journalists.
- Work closely with development staff to plan and execute various membership and development programs.
- Conceive and implement enhancements and revisions to APTI sites.
- Monitor and troubleshoot software and programming issues.
- Lead multimedia training for APTI staffs.
- Helps update the site with news posts that could include audio, video, and photos.
- Work with vendors and other business partners.
- Establish and manage expenses associated with the Web.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree.
- Three years experience in Web design and development.
- Proficiency in various Web programs and skills such as JavaScript, HTML, DHTML, and FTP, and CMS systems such as WordPress.
- Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and audiences.
- Ability to work in a team-based organization.
- Appreciation for high standards and journalistic principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a news, communication or publication environment.
