Reporter, APRN / Washington, DC
Under the supervision of the News Director, the APRN Washington, DC reporter will produce reports for APRN’s daily news and public affairs programs and newscasts.
The Washington, DC reporter will be responsible for covering the activities of Alaska’s congressional delegation as well as other legislative and federal issues impacting Alaska.
The successful candidate should have either a working understanding of Alaska issues, experience covering Capitol Hill, or (ideally) both.
The Washington, DC reporter needs to be team player who is able to work productively under pressure with other members of the news team, maintaining a high standard of professional conduct and exhibiting a willingness to do whatever is necessary to get the job done.
Specific Duties:
- Gather, write and produce news, feature and special reports for use by APRN and APRN member stations and other regional and national program distributors.
- Participate in editorial discussions with News Director and newsroom editors and producer to set the daily and weekly agenda.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experienced journalist with demonstrated professional, full-time broadcast radio experience in production of news and cultural programs.
- Superior ability to write and read broadcast copy.
- Ability to take direction and work under pressure of daily deadlines.
- Experience with Windows operating systems and software and digital audio editing software.
Classification: Regular, Full Time (40 hours).

Operations / Maintenance Technician
The Operations Technician is part of a team responsible for the operations of Television and Radio systems by implementing the operational policies and procedures for APTI. This duty includes the ability to understand and implement FCC rules and regulations as they pertain to the broadcast environment
Primary Responsibilities:
- Monitor and control facility safety, security and environmental systems
- Operate TV and Radio transmitting facilities in a safe and compliant way
- Understand facilities interconnection including signal type and routing, bypass and restore systems; microwave and fiber interconnection; etc. This includes the requirement to bypass faulty equipment so that operations continue without interruption.
- Assure quality control on all TV video products
- Reconcile station logs and automation schedules, insuring continuity of programs and signals
- Perform routine evaluation and maintenance of “on air” systems including database maintenance
- As part of team, generate operational policies for the stations
- As part of a team, help design and configure the operating environment and systems.
- Operate the stations in compliance with the FCC rules, safety regulations and company policies
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications: Associates Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Technology, Broadcast Design or equivalent. Relevant experience in one or more of these areas may be substituted to meet this requirement.
