Election Night on KAKM
Tue, November 4, 2008
Finally! Election season is coming to a close. All the meet-the-candidate programs, debates, analyses and more are wrapped up and it’s time to vote.
But there is one thing left: Election Results.
PBS is assembling the NewsHour team yet again to cover the election returns from coast to coast. Tune in to the NewsHour LIVE at 5:00pm on KAKM for national election results, the analysis of Shields and Brooks, updates from campaign headquarters and more. Coverage will run up to 8:00pm Alaska time.
This, of course, disrupts our normal schedule in a few ways:
- Cyberchase at 5:00pm is canceled for this evening
- Alaska Weather at 5:30pm is canceled for this evening
- The NewsHour’s normal daily news show at 6:00pm is canceled for this evening
- 5:00pm — Special LIVE NewsHour Election Coverage
- 8:00pm — NOVA: Missing in MiG Alley
- 9:00pm — Great Performances: Carnegie Hall Opening Night 2008
- 10:30pm — Get Ready for Digital TV
- 11:00pm — Tavis Smiley
- 11:30pm — Tavis Smiley
Our normal schedule resumes Wednesday, November 5th. Downloadable (PDF) schedules are available here.
Meanwhile, for more coverage of national and statewide election results, tune in to KSKA FM 91.1 beginning at 3:00pm and running up to 11:00pm or possibly later. KSKA will carry results from National Public Radio as well as the Alaska Public Radio Network to keep you up-to-date.
And don’t forget you can get statewide results directly from the Alaska Division of Elections:
- Alaska election results for ACS Internet users
- Alaska election results for GCI Internet users
- Alaska election results for all other Internet users
Anchorage Edition: October 31, 2008
Fri, October 31, 2008
Each week, host Michael Carey gathers journalists and commentators for a review of the week’s news, politics and public affairs in Anchorage and Alaska. Topics this week include:
- Ted Stevens: Guilty
- Sarah Palin and John McCain call for Ted Stevens to resign in the wake of the conviction (among other national Republicans)
- Stevens is appealing to voters, asking for their vote on Tuesday, saying he can be effective in the Senate — but will his message turn into voter action, and can he really be effective in the Senate while under such a substantial legal cloud?
- How will bush Alaska vote, with respect to Stevens?
- Stevens returns to Alaska to a throng of supporters at his eponymous airport
- Stevens was surprised that Bill Allen was dishonest?
- Debate for the State: How did Ted Stevens do?
- Debate for the State: How did Don Young and Ethan Berkowitz do?
- Don Young is being nice, and isn’t being overconfident in this campaign
- How has Mark Begich handled the Ted Stevens trial and conviction?
- What is Begich’s plan for the remainder of his campaign?
- For Senator Stevens, what is his potential “road to victory?”
- With so much early and absentee voting combined with normal voting, how can we figure out the results?
- The national presidential race will likely be decided early toward the east coast — will that depress west coast voting?
