KAKM Experiencing Technical Difficulties
Tue, July 8, 2008
KAKM is currently experiencing technical difficulties with its digital and analog signals that engineers are working to correct. The recently replaced digital microwave that transports the signal to KAKM’s transmitters has become intermittent. Vendors are working to resolve this problem and KAKM estimates to have repairs in place by the weekend. This problem is what has been causing the pixilated screen and drop outs on both the digital and analog signals. Engineers have also worked to resolve the audio lip sync problems experienced recently on the analog signal. This problem should be corrected at this time. Thank you for your patience while we work to correct these problems.
KAKM Digital 7.3 Service Interruption Notice
Wed, January 9, 2008
KAKM’s digital service 7.3, the 360 North Channel, will be interrupted Thursday morning, January 10, 2008 between 1:00 a.m. and 4 a.m. so that AT&T Alascom can make adjustments to the satellite uplink power amplifiers, and restore redundancy.
Cities of Light repeating Saturday at 8:00 p.m.
Thu, August 23, 2007
Many of our cable viewers experienced a picture freeze (though the sound continued) during last night’s airing of Cities of Light: The Rise and Fall of Islamic Spain. We’ve traced the trouble back to the cable operator, but of course that doesn’t help folks that missed portions of the program.
If you’d like to see the program again (or at least without an impaired picture), tune in this Saturday at 8:00 p.m. for the rebroadcast.
And if you really like the program, you can preorder a DVD copy through the PBS Store (scheduled for release September 14).
Satellite services restored
Tue, August 21, 2007
The satellite distribution outage that took some KAKM programs off the air remote parts of the state has been resolved. Repair of the “ARCS” system should restore distribution of KAKM’s Alaska Weather to the remote parts of the state this evening at 5:30 p.m., and broadcast TV services in many bush parts of the state should also be back.
Here’s the message we received from APBI technical support at 3:47 p.m. today:
Satellite delivery for ARCS, Alaska One, 360 North (Gavel to Gavel) and UATV has resumed. Engineers and technicians in Fairbanks were able to identify and solve the path interruption. From the monitor point in Anchorage, all video and audio services in the multiplex appear to be working correctly. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Satellite outage alert
Mon, August 20, 2007
The state-operated satellite service carrying some KAKM signals to remote parts of the state started having technical difficulties this past weekend — sometime on Saturday. Folks watching KAKM on consumer satellite services, cable services based in the Anchorage area and over the air from our Anchorage area transmitter will be unaffected.
For the most part, this shouldn’t affect most KAKM viewers. However, avid viewers of Alaska Weather in the bush will be unable to see the program this evening if the “ARCS” system is not restored by then.
Technicians are working to fix the satellite problem. We’ve asked for an estimated time for repairs but haven’t received one as yet. We’re hoping the signals can be restored soon.
The Sixties: The Years That Shaped a Generation
Fri, August 17, 2007
This past Wednesday evening many of our viewers on cable experienced audio problems in the last portion of the two-hour program The Sixties: The Years That Shaped a Generation. We apologize for the inconvenience. We tracked down the audio problem and discovered it was somewhere within the cable company’s delivery system and we’ve notified them of the issue.
If you would like to watch this special Sixties program again, you’re in luck! You can see it on KAKM this weekend on Saturday, August 18th at 8:00 p.m. Learn more about the program online here. Finally, you can also buy the DVD here.
